M Louise Kelly is a lapsed academic but still really enjoys delving into the background of anything she writes. Born in Newcastle, she somehow finds she has slipped over the border and now lives in Edinburgh – though from her accent you would never guess.
When she’s not writing she thinks about writing. Sometimes she multitasks (and earns money to keep herself fed) by working as an Associate Lecturer in Psychology at the Open University. When she gets the chance she hobnobs with other writers of adult and children’s fiction. She is on the organising committee of the of the Portobello Book Festival which takes place each October and was co-founder of the of the South East Scotland Network of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators . She is a member of the Society of Authors.
Although writing is her craft-of-choice, she regularly knits to help resolve plot points, crochets as she wrestles with character issues and has a sewing machine set up beside her laptop just in case… Her family would rather she got on with her writing than make them anything to wear. They also really enjoy the way that when she’s researching a book she drags them round relevant locations as she looks for inspiration and vibrant detail… as least she thinks that’s what their expressions mean. She’s too polite to ask.
